Offense Suffers First Shutout Of Second Half

VANCOUVER, BC – The Canadians came out flat against the Tri-City Dust Devils (Angels) Tuesday night at The Nat, mustering all of four singles in a 3-0 shutout loss to open a six-game series in their seventh of 12 consecutive home games.

A run in the top of the third proved to be the difference. Christian Sepulveda led off with a double against Naswell Paulino (L, 2-5), went to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Osmy Gregorio singled him home with two outs to break a scoreless tie.

Vancouver’s offensive struggles were compounded by a fine outing from Tri-City starter Jose Salvador, who went 5.2 scoreless frames and allowed only two singles with three walks and eight strikeouts. Emilker Guzman (H, 3), Dylan King (H, 2) and Glenn Albanese Jr. (S, 5) combined to hold the C’s scoreless for the remainder of the game, though the Canadians did threaten with runners on first and second with one out in the eighth but failed to advance them any further.

The Dust Devils put the game away with two runs in the ninth after three consecutive two-out walks loaded the bases before 2022 first-round pick Zach Neto laced a soft single into left to hammer in the proverbial nail for a 3-0 Vancouver loss.

Dasan Brown - #27 Blue Jays prospect - paced the offense with two singles and a steal while Miguel Hiraldo and Anthony Morales added a base hit apiece.

With the loss, the Canadians are now a game and a half back of first-place Eugene in the second half standings but still have a half-game advantage for the second playoff spot. They will return to action tomorrow for an RBC We Care Wednesday with Michael Dominguez on the hill opposite Tri-City’s Zac Kristofak.
