Paulino, who improved to 5-9, gave up four hits and two walks while striking out five.
Lakewood (32-36/72-66) has now won three straight games with one left in the regular season. Kannapolis (29-39/68-68) will open the post-season against either Greensboro or West Virginia on Wednesday.
Neither team scored in the first four innings, but Lakewood got going with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
