SEVERINO STARTS AND DEPARTS EARLY AS GADES WIN

Luis Severino made a rehab start today, pitching 1.2 innings before leaving the game with a groin injury. The Hudson Valley Renegades won the game with two in the top of the ninth to beat Brooklyn 5-4.

Severino, a 19-game winning with the Yankees in 2018, threw 35 pitches and allowed an earned run on a hit and a walk with three strikeouts. Matt Minnick replaced him on the mound.

The Cyclones held a 1-0 lead through five innings. In the sixth, Ezequiel Duran and Brandon Lockridge combined to drive in three runs. Duran drove in Evan Alexander with a double, giving him a team-high 18 RBIs for the season.

Brooklyn regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth with three runs. A two-run homer by Francisco Alvarez put the Cyclones up 4-3.

Eric Wagaman opened the ninth with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. He would eventually advance to third on a ground out. With Hudson Valley down to their last hope, Eduardo Torrealba singled to tie the game. Evan Alexander then delivered the eventual game-winning hit driving in Isaiah Pasteur who reached on a scoring error.

Brooklyn had one last chance in the bottom of the ninth but the game ended on a 4-6-3 double play. Nelson Alvarez picked up the win to improve to 2-0.

The Gades moved to within 1.5 games of Aberdeen in High-A East North. The teams finish the series tomorrow before Hudson Valley returns to Dutchess Stadium to face Jersey Shore.
