Threshers Bullpen Lights-Out in Loss

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Threshers’ bullpen yielded just one earned run and tallied 14 strikeouts during the span of five innings, but the Threshers fell 6-2 against the Dunedin Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
Rodolfo Sanchez was relentless in relief for the Threshers (31-30). He surrendered two runs, one earned, on four hits, permitted one walk, and struck out 10 batters in 3.1 innings. Brendan Bell closed out the game for Clearwater. He conceded just two hits and one walk, striking out four batters in 1.2 frames.
Dunedin’s (25-36) first three runs of the ballgame all came courtesy of solo home runs; one off the bat of Miguel Hiraldo and two from Blue Jays’ short stop Orelvis Martinez.
In the top of the fourth inning, Dunedin added to the advantage. Harrison Ray walked to lead off the inning, stole second base, and was brought home off a line drive by Anthony Morales to extend the lead to 4-0.
Clearwater scored its first run of the ball game in the bottom of the fourth. Juan Aparicio got on base and reached second due to a throwing error, and later scored off a line-drive double from Micah Yonamine putting the Threshers on the board 4-1. It was the Honolulu, Hawaii, native’s first double in a Threshers’ uniform since being added to the team on June 19.
Dunedin tacked on a run in the seventh inning from a walk and a triple and added another in the eighth on a double for a 6-1 lead.
The Threshers battled back in the eighth. Jadiel Sanchez lined a single into right field and moved to second on a wild pitch. Aparicio followed with a four-pitch walk and Baron Radcliff drove in the run on a line drive to left field to reduce the lead to four runs at 6-2, but that would be the final score of the game on Wednesday night.
Cristian Hernandez (2-4) suffered the loss for the Threshers. He gave up four runs on six hits, allowed three walks, and struck out three batters in his four-inning start on the mound.
Clearwater looks to get back in the win column in game three of the six-game series against the Dunedin Blue Jays on Thursday night. Mick Abel (1-3) gets the nod for the Threshers for the 7:00 p.m. contest. TICKETS
