JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Norfolk Tides (7-10) fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (10-7), 16-4, on Wednesday night at 121 Financial Ballpark. Coby Mayo and Errol Robinson extended their team-leading on-base streaks to 13 games, while Kyle Stowers collected his third multi-hit game of the season.

Jacksonville struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Jonah Bride launched a two-run home run to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-0 lead. Dane Myers tacked on another run two batters later when he singled in a runner to give Jacksonville a 3-0 advantage, and Victor Mesa Jr. collected the Jumbo Shrimp’s second homer of the inning to extend the lead to 5-0.

After being held scoreless through the first two innings, the Tides got on the board in the top of the third when Coby Mayo singled in Errol Robinson. The next batter, Kyle Stowers, proceeded to drive in Heston Kjerstad and cut the Jacksonville lead to 5-2. Following a walk by Peyton Burdick, Michael Pérez roped an RBI single into rigth field to bring in Mayo for Norfolk’s third run of the inning.

Jacksonville responded in the bottom of the fourth, adding back two more runs on an RBI double to extend their lead to 7-3. The Jumbo Shrimp added seven more in the bottom of the fifth to give them a 14-3 advantage.

In the seventh, the Tides battled back to add a run. Following a leadoff ground rule double from Connor Norby, Mayo drove him in for his second RBI of the day and 13th of the season. Jacksonville added on two more in the eighth, moving the final score to 16-4.

LHP Bruce Zimmermann (1-1, 7.53) will start on the hill for the Tides tomorrow, with RHP Yonny Chirinos (1-2, 5.06) on the mound for Jacksonville in the third game of the series. First pitch at 7:05 p.m.

POSTGAME NOTES

Errol Keeps Rocking: Extending his on-base streak to 13 games was Errol Robinson...the shortstop finished 1-for-3 with a run, walk and his fifth stolen base of the season...14 games is the fastest a Tides hitter has reached five stolen bags since Ruddy Yan stole that many in his first 14 games of the 2007 season...his on-base streak is tied for third-longest in the International League.

More Mayo Please: Notching his 12th RBI of the season tonight was Coby Mayo...he went 1-for-4 with with a run and two RBI while extending his on-base streak to 13 games, tied for the longest among Tides hitters with Errol Robinson...Mayo is slashing .370/.435/.685 with 12 runs, three doubles, a triple, four home runs, 10 RBI and five walks since the start of the streak (April 3).

Stowers Power: Collecting Norfolk’s lone multi-hit effort of the night was Kyle Stowers...he finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI...his two bagger marked the 12th extra base hit of the season, which is tied for the International League lead...Stowers is now batting 21-for-92 (.228) with 10 runs, seven doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI in 24 career games against Jacksonville.
