Cazadores de Tormentas drop close contest to Saints

PAPILLION, Neb. -- The Omaha Storm Chasers—playing as the Cazadores de Tormentas as part of Minor League Baseball's Copa de la Diversíon initiative—outhit the St. Paul Saints but fell, 3-1, on Saturday at Werner Park. The loss clinches the first home series loss of the season for Omaha (41-28).

Left-hander Marcelo Martinez threw 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while walking a season-high four batters and striking out six.

The Chasers scored first, plating a run against St. Paul left-hander Andrew Albers in the fourth inning. After right-fielder Ryan McBroom singled and moved to second on a wild pitch, he scored on a single by centerfielder Kyle Isbel. Isbel finished the game 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to a season-best 12 games.

The Saints tied the game in the sixth on a solo home run by Drew Maggi against right-hander Jake Newberry (Loss, 1-3) before taking the lead with two runs in the seventh. Newberry walked Roberto Peña on four pitches to begin the inning before allowing a single to Jose Miranda and a go-ahead two-run single to Tomas Telís.

Right-hander Kyle Barraclough (Win, 6-0) and left-hander Jovani Moran (Save, 1) combined to throw 3.1 scoreless innings of relief for St. Paul.

The Storm Chasers finish their series with the St. Paul Saints on Sunday at Werner Park, when left-hander Jake Kalish (1-2, 8.85) faces St. Paul right-hander Griffin Jax (4-1, 3.09). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. and coverage begins at 4:45 p.m. CT with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone.
