Papillion, NE — The Omaha Storm Chasers announced they have signed their Player Development License to remain the Kansas City Royals Triple-A affiliate, thereby extending the longest active Triple-A affiliation in Minor League Baseball. The announcement comes as part of a complete restructuring of the relationship between Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball.

“Continuity in the face of major industry change is something we are extremely proud of in our relationship with the Kansas City Royals,” Storm Chasers President Martie Cordaro said. “While our agreement with the Royals is not perpetual, we each operate in a way that demonstrates permanence. Our organization cannot wait to welcome the next wave of future Royals big leaguers to Werner Park in 2021 and beyond.”

“We are very proud to announce the Kansas City Royals and Omaha Storm Chasers will continue with our long-standing affiliation,” Royals Vice President/Assistant General Manager of Player Personnel J.J. Picollo said. “Omaha has been our Triple-A home for many decades, and, through the current restructuring of the minor leagues, we have never wavered in our desire to remain in Omaha. Our players and staff always enjoyed our partnership with the Storm Chasers and the surrounding community, and we appreciate the local fan base our players get to play in front of on a nightly basis. Gary Green, his partners, and Martie Cordaro represent what minor league baseball is all about in building strong relationships and providing everything necessary for us to develop Major League players. We look forward to the many years to come.”

The Omaha and Kansas City franchises have joined forces since both began play in 1969, making their partnership the longest at the Triple-A level and third-longest in all of Minor League Baseball. The Omaha franchise has played in more than 7,000 games as the Royals’ Triple-A club, winning three Triple-A championships, seven league championships, and 16 division titles. More than 900 players have debuted in the Major Leagues after playing for Omaha, including Hall of Famer George Brett.
