ONTARIO, Calif. — The Ontario Tower Buzzers pulled off the comeback Friday night, erasing a three-run hole with a six-run seventh inning to beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 9-6 at ONT Field. That win snapped their three-game skid.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh, Ontario was down 6-3 after Rancho had just exploded for three runs in the top half. Things looked rough, but then the Tower Buzzers put together their biggest rally of the series.
It all started with Ching-Hsien Ko working a walk. Caleb Johnson followed with a single to left-center, and Oswaldo Osorio lined an RBI single to bring Ko home. An off-target throw from Lucas Ramirez let Johnson move to third and Osorio advance to second.
Then Jose Gonzalez stepped up and laced a two-run single right up the middle. Johnson and Osorio scored, tying things up. Gonzalez then stole second, and moments later came tearing home when Abel Lorenzo crushed a two-run double to center. That hit also brought in Conner O’Neal, flipping the lead to Ontario, 8-6.
Kellon Lindsey kept the line moving with an RBI double that sent Lorenzo home, and just like that, Ontario had built a three-run cushion.
Rancho looked like they were in control. Jonathan Linares drew a walk, Samil Dishmey doubled, and Angel Arredondo drove in a run. Rancho loaded the bases after Joswa Lugo walked, and Ontario brought in Camden Wimbish to handle the mess.
Wimbish walked Jeffery Heard and Anyelo Marquez, so Rancho went up 6-3, but Wimbish locked in, stopped the bleeding, and then tossed a scoreless eighth.
He earned the win, now 2-0 this season, throwing 1 2/3 hitless innings.
Brady Pendley closed things out in the ninth. He worked around three singles but punched out Heard and Dishmey to leave the bases loaded and nail down his first save.
Ontario had shown their resilience earlier too. Rancho scored twice in the second, but Ontario evened the score in the bottom half, Osorio came home on a passed ball, and Kyeler Thompson scored on a wild pitch.
Lugo put Rancho back in front, 3-2, with a solo homer in the third, but Ontario didn’t flinch. Johnson singled, stole second, and raced home on Osorio’s RBI double—game tied at 3.
Osorio had a huge night, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, two runs, and a walk. Johnson went 2-for-4, crossing the plate twice and swiping a base. Thompson chipped in two hits as well.
Lindsey finished with two hits including a double an RBI, a walk, and his 18th steal this year. Gonzalez drove in two and picked up his first stolen base for Ontario.
The Tower Buzzers racked up 11 hits and went 5-for-19 with runners in scoring position.
They’ll look to keep things rolling as the final regular-season series with Rancho Cucamonga continues Saturday night at ONT Field.
