ONTARIO, Calif. — Blake Snell looked sharp Wednesday night in Ontario. He tore through four innings, striking out nine of thirteen hitters and only allowing one hit; he didn’t walk anybody, either. He tossed 60 pitches, 45 for strikes. The Dodgers wanted him to go four innings, and he got the job done.
With Snell in command early, Ontario’s offense didn’t waste time. They piled on nine runs across the third and fourth innings, pulling away from Fresno. It started in the third: Conner O’Neal singled, Mairo Martinus followed with another hit, and Kellon Lindsey drew a walk.
Ching-Hsien Ko knocked a two-run single to left-center, then a Fresno error and a wild pitch let another run cross. Easton Shelton grounded out but brought home Ko, giving Ontario a 4-0 cushion.
Ontario wasn’t done. In the fourth, eleven guys came up, and the Tower Buzzers put up five more runs. Oswaldo Osorio singled, O’Neal smacked a double to score another, Abel Lorenzo drove in a run, Martinus added an RBI single, and Joendry Vargas wrapped up the inning with a two-run single.
By the end, Ontario racked up twelve hits, drew seven walks, and went 6-for-15 with runners on base. Fresno’s four errors kept their defense scrambling all night. Ko reached four times, two hits and three RBIs. Vargas also picked up two hits, three RBIs, and both O’Neal and Osorio had two-hit games.
The loudest moment came in the fifth. Martinus raced around the bases for an inside-the-park homer, bumping his season total to 15. He finished 3-for-5, scored three times, and drove in two runs. Ontario’s defense was spotless, with no errors, and turned every routine play into outs.
After Snell, Marlon Nieves, who ended up with the win, gave up two runs over nearly three innings. Angel Cruz went 1.2 innings, and Accimias Morales took care of the final outs.
Fresno’s bats stayed quiet. Just three hits all night, and they only managed to score twice in the fifth and once in the eighth, never really threatening Ontario’s lead.
Tower Buzzers now stand at 55-43, having won the first two games of the six-game set. They’ll try to keep the streak going Thursday night.
