Tower Buzzers Edged by Quakes, 4-3, in Third Straight Loss

ONTARIO, Calif. — The Ontario Tower Buzzers just can’t catch a break. On Thursday night at ONT Field, they got solid work from their bullpen, six shutout innings, even a couple of big homers from Kellon Lindsey and Easton Shelton, but still ended up losing 4-3 to Rancho Cucamonga.
That’s three losses in a row, and all at the worst possible time with the regular season basically wrapping up.
Lindsey wasted no time getting Ontario on the board, smacking his 10th homer to right field in the first inning. But Rancho answered in the third when Lucas Ramirez launched a solo shot.
Ontario came right back in the fourth. Shelton led off with his 36th home run, then Bryan Gonzalez Garcia tripled home Kyeler Thompson, stretching the lead to 3-1.
That cushion didn’t last long. Ramirez led off the fifth with a walk, scored on Jaxon Willits’ double, Angel Arredondo singled in another run, and Joswa Lugo knocked a sac fly to put Rancho on top, 4-3.
Joel Cruz got tagged for those three runs, he ended up allowing four total over three innings, with four hits, four strikeouts, and three walks.
From that point on, Ontario’s bullpen actually shut things down. Ian May tossed two clean innings and Jose Vasquez mowed down the last six hitters, striking out four. With Marrero’s two scoreless innings to start, Ontario pitchers only let Rancho score in one inning out of nine.
The offense just went cold when it mattered. The Tower Buzzers went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Lindsey doubled with nobody out in the fifth but never made it home.
Shelton had a great night, three hits, including his homer and double, but got caught stealing third to kill a rally in the eighth.
Ontario got nothing going in the ninth; Rancho’s Alex Martinez struck out the side and nailed down his fifth save.
Shelton was the big bat, finishing 3-for-4, Lindsey went 2-for-3 with a homer, double, walk, and stolen base, and Gonzalez Garcia chipped in a triple and an RBI. Derek Clark picked up the win for Rancho after six innings and giving up three runs.
Ontario is still fighting to snap this losing streak. They'll try to turn things around Friday night at ONT Field when the series continues.
