The Board of Directors of the East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce met recently for a presentation about the Pawtucket Red Sox proposal for a new stadium to be built in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Presenters included: Pawtucket Mayor, Donald Grebien; Michael Tamburro, vice chairman, and Dan Rae, general manager, of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
The East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce announced its support today for the proposed Ballpark at Slater Mill.
After the PawSox presentation, the Board discussed the ballpark proposal at great length, and continued their discussion at a second meeting. "The Board's decision came down to the minimal risk, as a whole, that this proposal would have for the State of Rhode Island," said Laura McNamara, executive director of the Chamber. "Contributing factors to securing the board's support were the Pawtucket Red Sox's 43-year longevity and dedication to the State, their current contributions of approximately $2 million in state and city tax revenue, and their agreement to pay for any construction cost overruns."
"Ten years ago, Ms. McNamara noted, "the East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 110th birthday with its members and fans at McCoy Stadium. We look forward to celebrating our 130th at the new stadium in 2027!"
