Portland, Maine-- Michael Chavis hit a two-run homer in his return to Hadlock Field and then scored the game-winning run as the Portland Sea Dogs edged the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-4 on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.

Portland, Maine-- Michael Chavis hit a two-run homer in his return to Hadlock Field and then scored the game-winning run as the Portland Sea Dogs edged the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-4 on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.

Chavis, Baseball America's second-ranked Red Sox prospect, pulled the Sea Dogs to within 4-3 with a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning after Jeremy Rivera reached on a bunt single.
Portland took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Danny Mars scored on a passed ball. Chavis scored on a sacrifice fly by Tate Matheny to make it 5-4. 
The Fisher Cats struck with a big first inning. Dalton Pompey singled in his return to New Hampshire and Bo Bichette walked in the top of the first inning. Cavan Biggio delivered a run with a single and Max Pentecost homered to make it 4-0.
Portland's first run came across in the bottom of the second inning. Tate Matheny singled, moved to second on a groundout, scoring on a single by Jhon Nunez to make it 4-1.
Dedgar Jimenez worked the first six innings for Portland. Travis Lakins (W, 2-2), Josh Taylor and Jordan Weems (S, 3) each worked an inning of scoreless relief. New Hampshire reliever Kirby Snead (L, 2-3) took the loss.
The Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) continue their four-game series on Friday night with a 7:00 PM first pitch from Hadlock Field. RHP Teddy Stankiewicz (5-7. 5.14) makes the start for Portland. Lefty Taylor Saucedo is on the hill for the Fisher Cats.
