Margot Named Eastern League Player of the Week

Portland, Maine- The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has selected Portland Sea Dogs' center fielder Manuel Margot as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of August 31st - September 7th.

Margot hit .441 (15-for-34) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 12 RBI in eight games. The 20-year-old scored seven runs and stole three bases while walking twice and striking out only once. He ends the season with a six game hit streak. Margot's week was highlighted by hitting for the cycle Sunday against the New Britain Rock Cats in a 10-5 win. Margot is the second Sea Dogs player this season to hit for the cycle joining Tim Roberson and is the first Sea Dogs player in franchise history to hit for the cycle at Hadlock Field. Margot went 4-for-5 with five RBI, setting new season highs for hits in a game and RBI in a game.

Margot also set several Sea Dogs franchise records for the month of September, setting new highs for at-bats (29), hits (14), RBI (11), total bases (25), and slugging percentage (1.347).

In 64 games with Portland this season, Margot hit .271/.326/.419 with 21 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 33 RBI, and 19 stolen bases. In 110 games combined between Portland and High-A Salem, Margot hit .276/.324/.419 with 27 doubles, nine triples, six home runs, 50 RBI, and 39 stolen bases. He finished with the eighth best average among Red Sox minor leaguers and the second most stolen bases. Margot was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on July 2, 2011. The 2015 season is his fifth in the Red Sox organization.

Margot is the third Sea Dog to earn player of the week honors in 2015, joining Aaron Wilkerson (8/17-8/23) and Oscar Tejeda (5/11-5/17). Margot was also one of two Red Sox minor leaguers to be selected to the 2015 Futures Game, along with Rafael Devers.
