Late surge by 'Dogs, but Altoona wins 6-3

Altoona, Pa. - The Portland Sea Dogs (15-25) scored three runs in the eighth inning but Altoona (20-18) held on for a 6-3 win on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Portland still leads the series two games to one.

Despite the loss, Mike Shawaryn (2-5) fired six strong innings on four hits, one run, and five strikeouts. Shawaryn left the game trailing 1-0 on a run-scoring single by Will Craig.
Altoona lefty Brandon Waddell (W, 2-0) worked six scoreless on three hits and eight strikeouts to earn the win.
The Curve padded their lead to 5-0 with four runs off Josh Taylor in the seventh inning. Taylor, who was making his debut in the Red Sox system, yielded four hits and hit two batters. Cole Tucker was hit by a pitch to plate Jin-De Jhang. Ke'Bryan Hayes nailed a run-scoring single and Craig provided a two-run single, proving to be the game-winning RBI.
Portland cracked the ice in the eighth off Logan Sendelbach. Danny Mars drew a lead-off walk, and Chad De La Guerra hit a two-run homer to left field. De La Guerra extended his hitting streak to a team-high, 12 straight games. Later in the inning, Josh Tobias cut the deficit to two with a run-scoring groundout.
The Curve added an insurance run in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Stephen Alemais off Daniel McGrath. 
Jesus Liranzo recorded the final four outs to notch his fourth save of the season.
Portland and Altoona (Pirates affiliate) meet for the final time at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:00 PM. Lefty Dedgar Jimenez (1-2, 5.34) makes his seventh start of the year for Portland. Altoona sends righty Mitch Keller (4-2, 3.07).
