Sea Dogs close up shop in '19, falling 8-7 to the Fisher Cats

Portland, Maine - Christian Williams hit a two-run home run in the top of the 10th and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (32-40) defeated the Sea Dogs 8-7 in the final game of the 2019 season on Labor Day at Hadlock Field.

Portland, Maine - Christian Williams hit a two-run home run in the top of the 10th and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (32-40) defeated the Sea Dogs 8-7 in the final game of the 2019 season on Labor Day at Hadlock Field.

The Sea Dogs finished the 2019 season with a 62-76 overall record. Portland went 27-40 in the first half and 35-37 in the second half.
Williams hit the first pitch he saw from Dedgar Jimenez (L, 4-5) in the 10th up into the last row of the US Cellular Pavilion to drive in the game-winning runs for the 'Cats.
Portland scored a run in the bottom of the 10th on a sac fly by Jagger Rusconi to score the automatic baserunner, Dylan Hardy.
The Sea Dogs had rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth. Tommy Joseph doubled, then with Portland down to its final out of the season, Austin Rei hit an RBI single off of William Ouellette to score pinch-runner Brett Netzer and tie the game 6-6.
Ouellette (W, 3-2) got the win despite blowing the save. He allowed two runs on two hits in 1.2 innings. Jake Fishman (S, 4) came on with two outs in the 10th and got Jarren Duran to line out to third to end the game.
New Hampshire got off to a quick start. Josh Palacios and Kevin Smith hit back-to-back doubles off of Matthew Kent with two outs to give the 'Cats an early 1-0 lead.
Duran led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on an RBI groundout by Jeremy Rivera to tie the game after the first inning.
New Hampshire responded with two more runs in the second on a single by Cullen Large. The Fisher Cats scored two more times in the third on an RBI single by Brock Lundquist and an RBI groundout by Logan Warmoth to extend the lead to 5-1.
Luke Tendler hit a two-run homer off of Hector Perez in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Perez allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings.
Kent also went six innings and allowed six runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out six.
New Hampshire added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Palacios to make it a 6-3 game.
Rivera led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer off of Joey Pulido to trim the deficit back to two runs at 6-4. Later in the inning, Portland loaded the bases on an error and two walks, then scored when Dylan Hardy struck out but reached on a wild pitch. Palacios made a diving catch in center field on a sinking liner from Jagger Rusconi to end the inning.
The Sea Dogs welcomed 357,647 fans through the gates at Hadlock Field in 2019, including their 10 millionth fan in team history.
Portland opens the 2020 season on April 9th at Hartford, the home opener is April 16th against Trenton.
