Reading, PA - The Portland Sea Dogs beat Reading 8-4 in the twinbill opener on Tuesday morning, but game two was suspended with Reading leading 9-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning...The two teams will resume that game at 11:45 AM, followed by the regulary scheduled nine-inning contest..Following today's game, the 'Dogs open up a four-game series with the Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Wednesday's Game Notes

HELD IN SUSPENSE: The Portland Sea Dogs beat Reading 8-4 in the twinbill opener on Tuesday morning, but game two was suspended with Reading leading 9-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning...The two teams will resume that game at 11:45 AM, followed by the regulary scheduled nine-inning contest..Following today's game, the 'Dogs open up a four-game series with the Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

BIG FOURTH DID THE TRICK: Portland scored five runs in the fourth inning and beat the Fightins, 8-4 in the doubleheader opener on Tuesday morning...Jantzen Witte went 3-for-3, 3 RBI and delivered the game-winning RBI...Austin Rei tied the game with a solo-homer in the fourth off Major Leaguer Jered Eickhoff...Witte homered for the final run in the seventh inning...Matt Kent worked 6+ innings to earn his second straight win and Trevor Kelley recorded the final three outs for the save.

THAT WAS NUMBER FOUR: Kelley made it 4-for-4 in save opportunities, entering the contest with the bases loaded an nobody out in the seventh...The righty had not allowed an earned run in nine of 11 appearances this season...He allowed three of his four earned runs in one appearance - May 5th at Hartford in his lone loss of the season.

RENDA ON FIRE: Tony Renda has made three straight starts in left field since Cole Sturgeon was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket...Renda has five straight multi-hit games, and enters the nine-inning game with a team-high, 11-game hitting streak...In just 16 games with Portland, he's hitting .429 (27-for-63), HR, 7 RBI.

MR CONSISTENCY: Tate Matheny had his on-base streak snapped at 27 straight games by going 0-for-3 in the opener, but Matheny knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the first...In game two, Matheny is 1-for-4 with a walk scored, and has reached base safely in 30 of 32 games.

AGAINST THE OPPONENT: Portland went 11-10 against the Fightins in 2017, but lost seven of 10 at FirstEnergy Stadium...All-Time, the Sea Dogs, are 10-14 in season series against Reading...Portland dropped two of three in Pennsylvania during their second road series of the season.
