Thunder Storm Past Sea Dogs 13-1

Portland, Maine- The Trenton Thunder (31-16) had double-digit hits for the second straight night and defeated the Sea Dogs (21-22) 13-1 in front of 6,739 fans on Saturday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Portland, Maine- The Trenton Thunder (31-16) had double-digit hits for the second straight night and defeated the Sea Dogs (21-22) 13-1 in front of 6,739 fans on Saturday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

A day after Trenton set a new season-high with 17 hits, they had 16 more on Saturday afternoon. Five Thunder players finished with multi-hit games, while eight of nine had at least one hit. Trenton batters reached base in 24 of 49 plate appearances overall in the game.
 
Trenton got on the board early, scoring two runs in the first inning off of Kevin McAvoy (L, 1-3). After a leadoff single by Miguel Andújar, Miguel Andujar doubled two batters later to plate the game's first run. Later in the inning, Zack Zehner drove in Andujar on an RBI infield single to make it 2-0 Trenton.
 
The Thunder added two more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to extend the lead to 6-0. McAvoy allowed six runs on seven hits in 4+ innings while walking two and striking out one.
 
Taylor Grover entered the game in the fifth for McAvoy and allowed four runs on two hits and walked four in 1.2 innings of relief. All four runs came on a grand slam by Zack Zehner in the sixth inning that cleared the Dunkin' Donuts video board in left center field. Zehner finished the game with a career-high six RBIs.
 
Reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Yefry Ramírez (W, 6-1) was excellent for the Thunder. Ramirez allowed one unearned run on just one hit in 5.2 innings while walking three and striking out nine.
 
Cody Carroll and Matt Marsh combined for the final 3.1 innings. Trenton pitching set a new season-high with 15 strikeouts in the game.

The series continues tomorrow afternoon at Hadlock Field with a 1:00 PM first pitch. RHP Teddy Stankiewicz (2-1, 3.24) is scheduled to start for Portland against Justus Sheffield (3-2, 3.80) for Trenton. Pregame coverage begins on the WPEI US Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 12:45 PM.
