Trenton's 10th Inning Grand Slam Sinks Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine - Trey Amburgey hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the top of the 10th inning, leading the Trenton Thunder (42-31) to an 8-4 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (27-46) on Saturday night at Hadlock Field.

Portland, Maine - Trey Amburgey hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the top of the 10th inning, leading the Trenton Thunder (42-31) to an 8-4 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (27-46) on Saturday night at Hadlock Field.

Trenton lefty Caleb Frare (3-1) worked two hitless innings with four strikeouts to record the win. Portland righty Jordan Weems (1-1) allowed the grand slam to Amburgey and suffered the loss.
 
Trailing 4-2 in the sixth inning, the Sea Dogs tied the game against Dillon Tate (ND). Josh Ockimey reached on an error by 1B Ryan McBroom. Jordan Betts followed with a two-run homer over the Maine Monster.
 
Portland starter Teddy Stankiewicz (ND) worked five innings on eight hits, three runs, two earned, one walk and four strikeouts. Daniel McGrath yielded one run over two innings, and Travis Lakins pitched a perfect eighth.
 
The Thunder took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, as former Sea Dog Wendell Rijo singled home Jeff Hendrix. On the play, an error by LF Luke Tendler scored Francisco Diaz.
 
Portland received a sacrifice fly by Tendler in their half of the second to cut the deficit to 2-1. Trenton added a run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch by Stankiewicz.
 
In the fifth inning, Chad De La Guerra (2-for-4) closed the gap to 3-2 with a run-scoring single to left field. Trenton answered in the next half inning, receiving an RBI single from their catcher Francisco Diaz. 
 
Portland and Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) wrap-up their three-game series with a 1:00 PM start at Hadlock Field. RHP Mike Shawaryn (3-6, 3.57) is on the mound for Portland. Trenton counters with RHP Michael King (1-1, 2.32).
