Healy's Homer Gives Ports 3-2 Win In 10

April 25, 2014

STOCKTON, Calif. - It took an extra inning, but the Stockton Ports picked up their fourth straight victory on Friday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Ryon Healy came to bat with two outs in the bottom of the 10th and homered off High Desert Mavericks reliever Will Mathis (2-1) to lift the Boys of Banner Island to a 3-2 victory.

High Desert jumped on the scoreboard first as the Mavericks plated their only two runs of the contest in the second. With one on and one out, Jordy Lara hit a two-run homer to left off Ports starter Hunter Adkins to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.

Adkins went 3.2 innings in his first start for Stockton and received a no-decision, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out three.

Mavericks starter Matt Anderson shut the Ports down through five innings of work. Anderson received a no-decision after tossing five scoreless innings while allowing four hits and striking out three.

Grady Wood took over for High Desert in the sixth and gave up an infield single to Bruce Maxwell to open the inning. After two wild pitches and back-to-back strikeouts, Chad Pinder lined a ball to the gap in right-center and Mavericks right fielder Gabriel Guerrero missed the ball when we went to catch it, an error that allowed Maxwell to score and cut the Ports deficit to 2-1.

Stockton tied the game in the seventh. With two outs, Daniel Robertson doubled to right-center and scored on an ensuing RBI single by Billy McKinney. Wood went two innings for High Desert and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.

After two scoreless innings from Matt Brazis, Mathis took over to pitch the 10th for High Desert and retired the first two batters on groundouts. Healy then came up to bat and took the first pitch over the center field wall to give Stockton a 3-2 victory.

Tucker Healy (1-0) picked up the win for the Ports after tossing a scoreless top of the 10th. Jonathan Joseph tossed 3.1 scoreless innings in relief of Adkins and Nolan Sanburn pitched two scoreless frames in relief of Joseph.

The Ports and Mavericks play the second game of their three-game set on Saturday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Manny Correa (1-2, 6.26 ERA) will make the start for Stockton, opposed by High Desert southpaw Tyler Pike (2-0, 1.96 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PDT.
