Lancaster Drops Quakes to End Streak

Lancaster, CA - The Quakes rallied back and forth with the JetHawks in a contest that saw five separate lead changes before the Quakes ultimately fell 11-7 in game two of the three-game series, marking the end to their four-game winning streak.
Lancaster starting pitcher Trey Killian battled control issues early on, walking a pair of hitters with the bases loaded, plating Cristian Stantana and Donovan Casey to give the Quakes an early 2-0 lead.
A Willie Abreu three-run home run vaulted Lancaster to their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third inning. In the fourth, Rancho added another run on a Hamlet Marte RBI single, scoring Rylan Bannon and tying the game at three apiece.
Rancho jumped back to the lead when trailing 5-3 in the top of the sixth inning, thanks to three doubles. Hamlet Marte reached second to open the frame with a double and was plated on a two-bagger from Gavin Lux. Logan Landon, who was hit by a pitch, strolled home on an Omar Estevez sacrifice fly and Cristian Santana drove home Lux on an RBI double of his own, giving Rancho a 6-5 lead. Santana would finish the night 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI's.
The JetHawks secured the lead once more in the home half of the sixth inning following a bases-clearing double from Alan Trejo to make it 8-6, Lancaster. Two Rancho errors led to three additional Lancaster runs in the seventh inning, making it 11-6.
Rancho got their final run in the eighth, when Santana capped the scoring with a sac fly, making it 11-7.
On the hill, starting pitcher Jordan Sheffield lasted 4.2 innings giving up five runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five. Getting the loss was reliever Jeremiah Muhammad (0-1). He surrendered three runs in the sixth inning on two hits in his debut appearance for the Quakes.
For the JetHawks, Salvador Justo (1-0) received the win, allowing just one hit over two innings and holding the Quakes scoreless.
Following the loss, the Quakes (6-7) are now tied for second place in the South division with the Inland Empire 66ers. On Wednesday, Rancho will send right-hander Tony Gonsolin (0-0) to the mound for his third start of the year. Lancaster will counter with right-hander Brandon Gold (2-0). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm from The Hangar.
The Quakes will be back at Loan Mart Field on Thursday night for another Thirsty Thursday, with $2 Pepsi products, $3 domestic drafts and $4 premium drafts. Game time is 7:05pm as the Quakes host the Lake Elsinore Storm. Tickets are available by calling (909)-481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
