Flying Squirrels welcome five millionth fan on Saturday night

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Flying Squirrels welcomed the five millionth fan in the franchise’s history on Saturday night at The Diamond.

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Flying Squirrels welcomed the five millionth fan in the franchise’s history on Saturday night at The Diamond.

Amie Stumbo, a resident of Richmond, was recognized as the team’s five millionth fan.

“What an amazing accomplishment tonight as we welcomed the five millionth fan in Flying Squirrels history,” Flying Squirrels CEO Todd “Parney” Parnell said. “The love affair between the entire Richmond region and the Flying Squirrels is special. While we look forward to the future, we embrace the success of the past and present and want everyone to know how much we love Flying Squirrels nation. We look forward to many more memories and accomplishments to come.”

Stumbo was recognized in the ballpark during the eighth in the Flying Squirrels’ game against the Akron RubberDucks on Saturday night. She was presented with a custom Five Millionth Fan jersey as well as two season tickets for the remainder of the 2023 season and the entire 2024 season. She also received two tickets for the Flying Squirrels’ Hot Stove Banquet and Dinner on the Infield events.

Stumbo will have the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch for the Flying Squirrels’ Independence Day game on July 4 at The Diamond and watch fireworks on the field after the game.

One of the minors’ top-drawing teams since the franchise started in 2010, the Flying Squirrels currently lead all 30 Double-A teams in total and average attendance this year, a feat they accomplished for the first time in franchise history in 2022.

The Flying Squirrels wrap up their current homestand on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. and the gates open at 12:30 p.m. Sunday is Disability Inclusion Day as the Flying Squirrels team up with Friendship Circle of Virginia to celebrate fans of all abilities. Fans are invited to play catch on the field presented by Nesquik from 12:45-1:05 p.m. Following the game, kids 14 and under are invited to run the bases presented by Richmond Family Magazine.
