High School Element Added to Triple-A HR Derby
Following the Bees doubleheader on Saturday, May 7, several of Utah's top high school sluggers will compete for a chance to represent their schools in the 2011 Triple-A Home Run Derby, an annual competition featuring the top power hitters of the Pacific Coast League and International League.
All Utah high school baseball teams received an invitation to enter one participant determined by each school's head baseball coach.
The high school competition will allow each participant the opportunity to hit as many home runs as possible before reaching 10 outs (any swing not producing a home run). The top eight hitters from the first round of competition will compete in a final qualifying round immediately after. The two hitters garnering the most points during both rounds will earn spots in the July 11 Triple-A Home Run Derby at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Tickets for the 2011 Triple-A All-Star Game and Home Run Derby are currently available at the Spring Mobile Ballpark box office, online at slbees.com, and by calling (801) 325-BASE.
