Four Run 8th Inning Propels TCL Chanclas to Thursday Night Victory

SAN ANTONIO – After trailing early on against Acadiana, the Flying Chanclas scored five unanswered runs on their way to a 5-2 victory Thursday night. The game started with two scoreless innings between San Antonio and Acadiana. The Cane Cutters broke the tie with a run in the third inning.

The game started with two scoreless innings between San Antonio and Acadiana. The Cane Cutters broke the tie with a run in the third inning.

Facing Luke Malone, Logan McLeod and Conor Higgs reached base with singles. Ethan Lege broke the tie with an RBI single to score McLeod.

It took five innings for the Flying Chanclas to break through in the run column. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Cole Posey lifted a fly ball over the left field wall. It was his first home run of the year and tied the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied until the eighth inning. The Flying Chanclas broke free with a four-run inning in the bottom of the inning. Posey began the inning with a walk. Warren Laster and Kade Fletcher both reach on bunt singles. Cole Modgling provided a big blow with a two-run single. Rody Barker laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over. Zac Vooletich provided the second big blow with another two-run single. San Antonio took a 5-1 lead.

Luke Malone was the starting pitcher for the Flying Chanclas. The right-hander pitched 7.2 innings, allowed one earned run on eight hits, and struck out four batters. AG Ayala picked up his first win of the season after retiring the only batter he faced.

Evan Maldonado pitched the ninth inning. In a non-save situation, Maldonado allowed an earned run on a solo home run to Matt Abshire. Maldonado struck out two batters during the inning.

The San Antonio Flying Chanclas improve to 20-5 on the season. They are back in action Friday, July 16th at Nelson Wolff Stadium against Baton Rouge. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
