Five San Jose Giants Named 2018 California League All-Stars

San Jose Giants will represent the Northern Division in Lancaster

San Jose, CA- Five San Jose Giants players have been named to the Northern Division California League All-Star team and will participate in the 2018 California League All-Star Game against the Southern Division All-Stars on June 19 in Lancaster at The Hangar, the home of the Lancaster JetHawks. RHP Logan Webb, LHP Sandro Cabrera, INF Jalen Miller , INF Wander Franco and OF Johneshwy Fargas were selected to represent the organization in the All-Star contest.

 

Logan Webb has been a dominant force for the Giants this season with a sparkling 1.80 ERA. Although he is on a strict innings limit, Webb has made the most of his 13 appearances (12 starts). In 40 innings of work, the Rocklin, CA native has surrendered only eight earned runs while striking out 34 opposing hitters. Webb did not give up a run from May 13th through June 3rd-a stretch of five scoreless starts.   

 

Sandro Cabrera has also provided a steady arm for the San Jose Giants during the first half of the season both as a starter and reliever. Cabrera has appeared in 13 games and has made six starts. The southpaw is tied for the California League lead with six wins and owns a 3.34 ERA. Cabrera has compiled 56 strikeouts during his 62 innings pitched.

 

Jalen Miller , who is the organization's #30 ranked prospect according to MLB.com has led the Giants offensive attack with an exceptional first half at the plate. Miller currently leads the Cal League in runs scored (44), is second in hits (76) and sits at fourth with a .311 batting average. The second baseman has clubbed seven homers and has driven in 36 runs which is among the league leaders and has been remarkably consistent as evidenced by his .290, .336 and .293 monthly averages. Miller also had hitting streaks of 10 games, six games (twice and still currently active) and five games (three times).  

 

Wander Franco provided outstanding play up and down the lineup during the first half. The righty currently leads the California League with 20 doubles and is hitting .285 to go along with 30 RBI which is third most on the team. Standout first half performances for Franco include a 4-4 night on April 30th and a pair of three-hit, two-double nights on May 5th and May 10th.

 

Johneshwy Fargas  rounds out the Giants all-stars with a team-leading 18 stolen bases which is among the league leaders. 

 

The California League All-Star Game pits the best of the Northern Division against the Southern Division with each roster made up of 22 active players. The 2018 California League All-Star Game takes place on June 19 at the Lancaster JetHawks home ballpark, The Hangar. Festivities also include a Cal League Hall-of-Fame induction ceremony for Roberto Alomar Jr., Joe Morgan, Lenn Sakata and Larry Jackson and a Home Run Derby.
