On The Move: RailRiders Race to 6-5 Victory Over Jumbo Shrimp

MOOSIC, PA (September 15, 2026) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 6-5 Tuesday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders stole seven bases and drew eight walks, wreaking havoc on the basepaths to take game one from the Jumbo Shrimp.

Jacksonville opened the scoring against Yankees #3 Prospect Elmer Rodríguez in the top of the second on a Juan Matheus sacrifice fly for a 1-0 edge.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre responded in the home half of the frame. After Oswaldo Cabrera walked and a pitch hit Max Schuemann, Duke Ellis extended his hitting streak to 12 games, roping a two-run RBI single to left-center for a 2-1 RailRiders lead.

The RailRiders added to the advantage without recording a hit in the bottom of the third. Jasson Domínguez and Marco Luciano walked and completed a double steal to force a throwing error at third to score Domínguez. A wild pitch sent Luciano across, putting Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead three.

The Jumbo Shrimp cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth. With inherited runners on the corners, reliever Zach Messinger fired a wild pitch to the backstop, scoring Johnny Olmstead to pull within two.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ellis reached on a forceout, stole second and third, and crossed on a wild pitch for a 5-2 cushion.

Jacksonville narrowed the deficit to two on Brandon Compton’s RBI groundout in the top of the eighth.

SWB earned the run back in the home half on back-to-back doubles from Max Schuemann and Ernesto Martínez Jr., giving the RailRiders a 6-3 lead.

In the top of the ninth and with no one out, the Jumbo Shrimp closed to within one on a Logan Driscoll two-run homer, but RailRiders reliever Chris Kean (S, 1) retired the final three batters to secure the one-run victory.

Despite allowing base runners in every inning pitched, Rodríguez gave up only two runs on three hits in 4.2 innings of work, walking five. Messinger (9-1) earned the win, pitching 2.1 scoreless frames. Zach Brzykcy (4-3) started in a bullpen game for the Jumbo Shrimp, surrendering two runs on two hits in 2.0 innings.
