Coyle Named Eastern League Player of the Month
Portland, Maine - Portland Sea Dogs' second baseman Sean Coyle has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for June.
Coyle hit .348 (32-for-92) in 26 games in June with six home runs and 22 RBI. He tied for the league lead in total bases (60) and extra-base hits (15) during the month. Coyle also finished the month ranked among the league leaders in slugging percentage (.652-2nd), on-base percentage (.450-3rd), runs scored (22-3rd), homers (6-tied 3rd), RBI (22-tied 3rd), walks (15-5th), hits (32-tied 5th), doubles (8-tied 7th) and batting average (.348-8th). Coyle hit safely in 21 of the 26 games in June including ten straight from June 6 through June 17 and compiled nine multi hit games. Additionally, Coyle reached base safely in 25 of the 26 games. The 22 year-old earned Eastern League Player of the Week honors for the week of June 23-29 after hitting .524 (11-for-21) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 RBI, and scored seven runs in six games.
Coyle was selected to participate in both the Major League Baseball All-Star Futures Game and the Eastern League All-Star Game. The Futures Game will be played on Sunday, July 13th at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While the Eastern League mid-summer classic is set for Wednesday, July 16th at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
In 60 games this season, Coyle is hitting .348 (71-for-204) with 17 doubles, a triple, 11 home runs, and 47 RBI. Coyle entered the season ranked as the Red Sox #30 prospect according to Baseball America. The Chalfont, PA resident was selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the June 2010 draft.
Coyle is the second Sea Dogs player to earn Eastern League Player of the Month honors this season joining Mookie Betts who earned the honor for April. Since the Sea Dogs inception in 1994, 13 Sea Dogs players have earned the accolade.
