De La Cruz Named E.L. Player of the Week
Portland, Maine - The Eastern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has selected Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Keury De La Cruz as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week of August 11th through August 17th.
De La Cruz hit .688 (11-for-16) with two doubles, two home runs, four runs scored, three RBI, three walks, and a stolen base in five games last week. The 22 year-old hit safely in all five games and collected four multiple hits game including a pair of three hit performances. De La Cruz led the league in hitting (.688), slugging percentage (1.188), on base percentage (.737), and OPS (1.924) last week; he also tied for the league lead with 11 hits during the week. Additionally, De La Cruz ranked among the league leaders for the week in total bases (19- 2nd), extra base hits (4- tied 2nd), home runs (2- tied 3rd), and doubles (2- tied 9th). De La Cruz struck out just once during the week and hit home runs on back-to-back days on August 14th & 15th .
In 57 games this season, De La Cruz is hitting .303 (63-for-208) with 13 doubles, five home runs, and 24 RBI. He entered the season ranked as the Red Sox #14 prospect according to MLB.com. The La Romano, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Red Sox as a non drafted free agent on February 6, 2009.
De La Cruz is the fourth Sea Dogs player to earn Eastern League Player of the Week honors this season joining Sean Coyle, Deven Marrero, and Mookie Betts. Additionally, Sea Dogs' pitcher Henry Owens, Mike McCarthy, and Brian Johnson have all earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors this season.

The Sea Dogs begin their final road trip of the season on Tuesday night with stops in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Manchester, New Hampshire.
