Portland, Maine- New England Patriots running backShane Vereen is scheduled to make an appearance at Hadlock Field on Thursday, May 8th when the Portland Sea Dogs take on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at 6:00 PM. Vereen's appearance at Hadlock Field is presented byAsylum Sports Bar and Grill.
Vereen will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and will be available to sign free autographs on photos provided by the Portland Sea Dogs for fans from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
Vereen was selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2011 draft, out of the University of California-Berkeley, and has been an integral part of the Patriots backfield over the past three seasons. In 26 career regular season games, Vereen has nine touchdowns (5 rushing, 4 receiving). In 2013 he was limited to eight regular season games due to a stint on injured reserve. The 25 year-old rushed for a career-high 101 yards on 14 carries on September 8th at Buffalo. He set new team records for receptions and receiving yards by a running back in the comeback win against Cleveland on December 8th. Vereen had 12 receptions for 153 yards and three rushes for nine yards and a touchdown in the contest. In the 2013 postseason he added 51 yards on the ground with nine carries, and 75 yards on seven catches in two games. During the 2012 playoffs, Vereen joined Deion Branch as the only other player in Patriots history to score both a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same postseason game as he scored one of each against the Houston Texans.
The Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have hosted several Patriots players at the ballpark over the last few years including Steve Grogan (2008), Rob Gronkowski (2011), Patrick Chung (2012), and Rob Ninkovich (2013).
