LOWELL, MA - The Lowell Spinners, short season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are proud to announce John Leahy, the team's play-by-play broadcaster since 2011, has been awarded the Warner Fusselle Award of Radio Excellence, given each year to the top radio personality in the New York-Penn League.
"It is with the greatest amount of humility and happiness that I receive this prestigious award dedicated to the memory of the great Warner Fusselle." said Leahy "I am constantly inspired to achieve the greatness he did on the air, and I am truly blessed and thankful to the league's judging committee, my colleagues, and the Lowell Spinners for continuing to give me the opportunity to do what I love."
In addition to his time with the Spinners, Leahy previously was on-air with the North Shore Spirit, Kalamazoo Kings, and the Florence Freedom. He has also been the voice of Merrimack College Hockey since 2005 and was elected to the Connecticut School of Broadcasting Wall of Fame. Leahy is also an accomplished writer, having written three published books.
