The Lowell Spinners, short season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are proud to announce a two-year extension with the Boston Red Sox on a new player development contract through the 2020 season.

The player development contract (or P.D.C.) assures that the Spinners will be a minor league affiliate with the Red Sox organization for the foreseeable future. The Spinners have served as the Red Sox short season affiliate in the New York-Penn League since the team's inception in 1996. The current P.D.C. was set to expire after the 2018 season.

"We are proud to extend our relationship with the Boston Red Sox who have been an integral part of our family for the last 22 years and counting!" said Spinners owner Dave Heller. "Fans throughout Red Sox nation know Lowell as a place where many Red Sox greats have begun their professional careers and with key additions and renovations to our ballpark over the past several years and years to come, we look forward to continuing our relationship as a member of one of the most storied franchises in all of baseball!"

Edward A. LeLacheur Park, home of the Spinners since 1998, recently installed a brand new playing surface and irrigation system for the 2018 season. In addition, the Spinners have also installed brand new energy efficient LED field lights to the ballpark for the upcoming season. Lowell will also be adding a multi-tiered layer party deck area in right field for fans to maximize their ballpark experience.

Baseball returns to Lowell on Monday, June 18th when the Spinners host the Staten Island Yankees for Opening Night. Group tickets and mini plans for the 2018 season are available now by visiting either lowellspinners.com or by calling the box office at (978) 459-1702.
