RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - The Stockton Ports evened up their three-game series with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Saturday night at LoanMart Field. Stockton pounded out 16 hits in a 7-3 win over the Quakes to set up a rubber game of their three-game set on Sunday afternoon.
Rancho Cucamonga scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning as Hunter Feduccia walked with one out and scored on a two-out double by Dillon Paulson to give the Quakes a 1-0 lead. It was the lone run allowed by Ports starter Hogan Harris, who did not factor into the decision in his California League debut as he went 4 1/3 innings and allowed four hits while walking one and striking out six.
Stockton scored its first run of the series in the third as Jameson Hannah and Austin Beck opened the inning with back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Hannah would score on a wild pitch uncorked by Quakes starter Gerardo Carrillo (2-7) to tie the game at 1-1.
The Ports grabbed the lead for good in the fourth inning as Lazaro Armenteros drew a walk to open the frame and scored on an ensuing double by Trace Loehr to give Stockton a 2-1 lead and chase Carrillo from the game. Loehr would score later in the inning on an error committed by first baseman Dillon Paulson to run the lead to 3-1.
Carrillo suffered the loss, going three-plus innings and allowing three runs on four hits while striking out one.
After 2 2/3 scoreless innings worked by Austin Drury and a scoreless 1 1/3 innings worked by Sven Schueller, Brandon Montgomery took over in the seveneth and gave up four straight hits with one out. Jeremy Eierman tripled, Jonah Bride drove him in with a single, and Armenteros followed with a two-run homer to run the lead to 7-1.
Montgomery went a third of an inning and allowed three runs on four hits.
The Ports added a run in the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Bride off Quakes reliever Brett de Geus to make it a 7-1 game.
