EVANSVILLE, IN - The Tri-City ValleyCats entered Saturday’s matchup with the Evansville Otters looking for their third consecutive series victory following the Frontier League’s All-Star break.

The tables turned from last night’s Tri-City victory that saw the ‘Cats strike early and often. Instead, Evansville jumped out to the early lead with a 4-run first inning, tacking an insurance run on in the second.

The ‘Cats would attempt to claw their way back in the third, with two runs scoring on singles by Cito Culver and Brantley Bell, however the Otters’ original lead would never be caught up to. After Evansville tallied three more in the 4th, the game wouldn't see another score until the 7th, when Frontier League HR and RBI-leader Denis Phipps would leave the yard for a grand slam, cutting the deficit to two.

The Otters would tally two more runs and hold Tri-City scoreless for the remainder of the game, evening the series at one game a piece, and setting up a rubber match tomorrow night to end Tri-City’s road trip.

FINAL | EVANSVILLE (37-27) 10 TRI-CITY (34-31) 6

W: Austin Gossman (6-3)

L: Jose Cruz (0-7)

The ValleyCats and Otters finish their weekend set tomorrow as the ‘Cats go for a series win at Bosse Field in the rubber match.
