TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats (39-34) looked to add on to their Atlantic Division lead and sweep the New York Boulders (36-38) on “Around the World in Nine Innings Night” featuring Los Puentes de Tri-City. The ‘Cats dodged the forecasted heavy rain in front of a crowd of over two thousand fans.

After a tough start to the game, allowing three runs in the first, right-hander Bruce Bell (0-1) settled in nicely, and would not allow another run through an additional four and two-thirds innings of work. The ‘Cats would stay in the game after falling into a 3-0 hole thanks to yet another RBI single by Brad Zunica, and a home run by shortstop Juan Silverio. Entering the ninth trailing by one, the ‘Cats hoped for a solid fourth inning out of southpaw Patrick Murphy, who was in the midst of his longest outing of the season. Murphy and the ‘Cats would surrender two more runs (neither would be charged as earned), and found themselves in a 5-2 hole in the series finale.

Connor Lien would lead off the bottom of the ninth inning with a strikeout, but Luis Roman would break up a streak of eight-straight ‘Cats retired by New York reliever James Mulry. Daniel Angulo would rocket a ball into the left-centerfield gap, but be robbed by CF Milton Smith Jr. Carson McCusker would be set down on strikes to end the contest and series.
