Addison Barger Named NWL Player of the Week

VANCOUVER, BC – Minor League Baseball has recognized Vancouver Canadians infielder Addison Barger as the Northwest League Player of the Week for May 30 to June 5. He is the fifth C’s player to earn the honor and the second Canadians position player to be highlighted at the top of their position, joining Chad Dallas, Trent Palmer, P.K. Morris and Sem Robbberse as league award winners for Vancouver this season.

Barger was the engine for the Canadians offense this week. He went 8-for-21 (.381) with a pair of doubles, two home runs, four runs scored and six RBI while slashing .458/.762/1.220. He had a hit in all six games and has recorded a knock in nine straight.

As of this writing, Barger is among league leaders in average (.297, 3rd), home runs (9, T-1st), RBI (36, 2nd), slugging percentage (.547, 1st), OPS (.888, 2nd), hits (51, 2nd), doubles (12, T-1st), triples (2, T-5th), extra-base hits (23, 1st), total bases (94, 1st) and runs scored (30, T-2nd). He’s hitting .348 with runners in scoring position and .400 in the ninth inning.

Originally from Everett, WA, Barger was Toronto’s sixth round pick (176th overall) in 2018 out of King High School in Tampa, FL. He debuted that year with the GCL Blue Jays and played in 49 games before advancing to Bluefield in 2019; that season, Barger hit .283 in 13 games before returning to action in 2021 to play in a career-high 96 games over two levels and slash a combined .244/.326/.477/.803. He was promoted from Low-A Dunedin to Vancouver for the final week of last season.
