EVERETT, WA – Nick Goodwin and Jeff Wehler hit solo homers in the first and second innings, respectively, but the Canadians were otherwise muzzled by the Everett AquaSox [Mariners] in a 6-2 defeat Tuesday night at Funko Field

Goodwin’s bomb came with one out in the opening frame and Wehler’s on the third pitch of the second to stake the C’s to an early 2-0 lead, but the Frogs scored four unearned runs with two outs in the bottom of the second and never looked back. Their starter Ty Cummings (W, 2-3) faced the minimum after the Wehler homer and went on to post six strong innings in which he scattered two walks and a season-high eight strikeouts.

A trio of ‘Sox relievers kept the C’s off balance the rest of the way. Vancouver failed to bring more than three hitters to the plate from the third inning through the final out and left no men on base in the game.

Carson Pierce, Johnathan Lavallee, Conor Larkin and Naswell Paulino all turned in scoreless relief outings.

The C’s send Pat Gallagher to the mound on Wednesday night looking to even the six-game set at one win apiece. Everett counters with reigning Northwest League Pitcher of the Week Ryan Hawks. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and can be heard live on Sportsnet 650.
