VANCOUVER, BC – In front of a sellout crowd on Tuesday night at The Nat, the Canadians opened their series against the Spokane Indians (COL) with a 6-1 win. JoJo Parker plated the first run with an RBI single in the third. The C’s then added three more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 6-0 lead. They almost shut out the Indians before they surrendered a run in the ninth. With the win, the C’s secure their first winning month of the season.
The first run of the game was scored in the third. Dariel Ramon singled, then stole second; a Parker single would bring him in to score and make it 1-0.
In the sixth, the Canadians loaded the bases before Ramon hit a fielder's choice to plate the first run of the inning. Maddox Latta drew a 10-pitch walk to fill the bases once again, and in the next at-bat Parker would hit his second RBI single of the night. To finish off the inning, Jake Casey would walk in the third run of the inning to put the C’s ahead by four.
A leadoff error put the first man on base in the seventh. After a walk saw another man reach base and a groundout put two into scoring position, Jean Joseph grounded out to score one run and Ramon added another RBI to his night with an infield single to make the score 6-0.
Silvano Hechavarria (W, 2-5) worked his best start of the year, going six scoreless innings. In his time on the mound, he scattered three hits, walked one, and K’ed five. For five straight innings, Hechavarria retired the leadoff batter.
Starting the seventh, Bradley Wilson (S, 1) emerged from the bullpen. He kept his first two innings scoreless before giving up a solo run in the ninth. In his three innings, Wilson gave up four hits, one run, walked one and struck out one.
Thanks to the win and an Everett (SEA) loss, the Canadians now have a four-game lead on a playoff spot with 11 games to go.
The C’s will continue their hunt for the playoffs tomorrow during RBC We Care Wednesday. Mississauga, ON native Connor O’Halloran will get the start against RHP Aiden May. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
