PASCO, WA – The Canadians were shutout for the third time in 2023 Thursday night after a 4-0 loss to the Tri-City Dust Devils [Angels] at Gesa Stadium.
Tri-City grabbed an early lead thanks to a lead-off triple and a run-scoring groundout in the bottom of the first – the first time they’ve scored before the C’s in the series – then added another run with consecutive two out hits in the second to go in front 2-0.
The C’s missed plenty of chances to tie the game or take the lead. They had the bases loaded with two outs in the third and left them full then put the first two batters of the fourth aboard but stranded those men. A couple of C’s runners reached in the sixth to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with two outs and they had men at the corners with one away in the seventh, though nothing came of those opportunities.
A pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh iced the game for the Dust Devils and they ran away with a 4-0 defeat of the C’s.
Garrett Spain paced the offense with two hits and a walk while Ryan McCarty also had two knocks. 2023 draft pick Nick Goodwin collected his first career High-A hit with a double in the ninth.
Vancouver will aim to even the series Friday night when they send Hunter Gregory to the hill opposite CJ Mayhue. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and coverage is available on the Sportsnet Radio Network.
