Toman Homers To Tie It Late, But C's Fall In 10

VANCOUVER, BC – The Canadians fell short in extra innings against the Spokane Indians (COL) Friday afternoon at The Nat. The Canadians jumped out to an early advantage behind a two-run homer from Alexis Hernandez and a sacrifice fly by Eric Snow, but Spokane battled back to take the lead in the middle innings. Tucker Toman kept Vancouver alive with a game-tying solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. Spokane scored twice in the 10th, and the Canadians were unable to answer in a 7-5 defeat.
Hernandez opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the first that landed in the left field bullpen. The C’s continued the scoring in the second with a Snow sac fly. The Indians rallied in the top of the fifth to tie it up. In the top of the sixth, they would manufacture a run with a walk, a steal, a pickoff error and a sac fly to score a run then plated one more in the seventh to lead by 5-3
In the eighth, Snow picked up another RBI on a fielder's choice, allowing Jaxson West to score from third. Vancouver loaded the bases with one out, but a double play stymied the rally and the score remained 5-4.
With two outs in the ninth and their backs against the wall, Toman stepped up to the plate and hammered a solo home run 407 feet to tie the game and push the game to the 10th.
An error and a double in the top of the 10th would lead to two runs for Spokane and the Canadians weren’t able to rally in the home half to fall 7-5.
After winning the Northwest League Pitcher of the Week, Landen Maroudis took the mound to start. Maroudis kept the first four innings scoreless, scattering two hits between the first four. In the fifth, he gave up three hits, a walk and a balk, allowing three runs to score before he was able to end the inning.
Franly Urena made his C’s debut when he entered the game in the in the sixth, gave up a hit, a pair of runs, walked two, and struck out one. Jack Eshleman (L, 1-1) put up 2.2 perfect innings of relief, and K’ed a pair before giving up two unearned runs on one hit in the 10th.
The Canadians will face off against Spokane tomorrow evening as part of Country Night. #17 Blue Jays prospect Silvano Hechavarria will get the start against left-hander Bryson Hammer. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.
