With the first pitch of the 2024 season less than one month away, we’re taking a look back at the Top 10 games from the championship-winning 2023 campaign.

#10 - Devonte Brown’s two homers spur C’s to second six-game series sweep since 2021

Devonte Brown’s first two-homer game as a pro and the team-best 15th home run of the year from Blue Jays prospect Cade Doughty led the Canadians to a 3-1 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils [Angels] on August 13 in front of a sell-out crowd on a sun-splashed Sunday afternoon. The win secured Vancouver’s second six-game series sweep since 2021 and established a new season-long winning streak of six games. It was also the shortest nine inning game at The Nat in over 12 years, clocking in at a brisk one hour and 59 minutes.

After two scoreless innings to start the day, the Newnan, GA native slugged his first bomb on a 1-2 pitch with one out in the third to grab the early lead. Tri-City would tie it on a solo blast from Casey Dana in the fifth, but that was all C’s starter Pat Gallagher would allow over five innings of work. He finished with four hits, no walks and four strikeouts in a no-decision.

Doughty’s homer came on another 1-2 pitch in the sixth, which proved to be the winning stroke. It was his second homer in as many days this week.

Brown iced the game with a 409-foot shot to dead center on a 2-2 pitch in the last of the eighth to give the Canadians some added insurance and Conor Larkin (S, 2) went 1-2-3 in the ninth to secure the win.

Eric Pardinho (W, 2-1) and Naswell Paulino (H, 4) combined to blank the Dust Devils between the sixth and the eighth to keep the game close.

With the win, the C’s improved to a season-high 29 games over .500 at 68-39 and in the process surpassed 2022’s win total with 24 games left to play. The victory also made them the best team in baseball – MLB or MiLB – at home, posting a .731 winning percentage on Ontario Street. In 20 second half home games up to this point last year, the C’s were 17-3.
