WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 24, 2018) - Behind a dominant outing from Dash right-hander Dylan Cease, Winston-Salem defeated Buies Creek 3-1 in the series finale on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Cease (6-2) registered his longest outing of the year on Thursday, as he tossed a career-high 7.1 innings, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out nine in the winning effort for Winston-Salem (25-22).

The Dash got on the board first in the bottom of the second, as Gavin Sheets beat the shift with a single to left field. After Sheets advanced to second base on a wild pitch by Astros starter Brett Adcock (3-2), Yeyson Yrizarri followed with a run-scoring single through the right side of the infield to make it a 1-0 contest.
In the top of the fourth, though, Buies Creek (26-21) knotted the game against Cease. The Astros loaded the bases with only one out via two walks and a single by J.J. Matijevic. Cease limited the damage, but an RBI groundout from Troy Sieber tied up the ballgame.
However, Winston-Salem responded right away with two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. Micker Adolfo led off the frame by lining a single to left center, then advanced to second on a wild pitch and reached third on a groundout from Sheets. Then, with Zach Remillard batting, Adcock threw another wild pitch that allowed Adolfo to score from third to put Winston-Salem ahead for good.
Remillard proceeded to work a walk, and he advanced all the way to third on a wild pitch and a flyout from Yrizarri. Nate Nolan then stroked a single to center to score Remillard and put Winston-Salem up two.
After Cease exited with one out in the eighth inning, left-hander Kyle Kubat entered in relief and retired all five batters he faced to close out the victory and secure the save.
Up next, the Dash will visit the Potomac Nationals for a three-game series as part of a six-game road trip.
