WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 7, 2018) - Thanks to dominant outings over Lynchburg and Buies Creek, Winston-Salem right-hander Dylan Cease has earned the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week award for the week of April 30-May 6, the league office announced on Monday.
Cease overpowered the Hillcats in the Dash's 9-0 win at BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday, tossing a career-high seven innings and notching a career-high 12 strikeouts. One of four prospects traded from the Cubs to the White Sox last July for big leaguer Jose Quintana, Cease scattered just two hits over his seven scoreless innings, retiring 19 batters in a row at one point. He also threw 74 of his 101 pitches for strikes in the winning effort, and he hit 100 miles per hour three times on BB&T Ballpark's radar gun.

On Sunday against the Astros, Cease registered another quality start. Taking the mound for Winston-Salem's first Rayados game of the season, the 22-year-old registered six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out six in his second victory of the week. Through his two starts this past week, Cease went 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.
The fifth-best prospect in the White Sox system per MLB Pipeline, Cease leads the Carolina League with 42 strikeouts. A native of Milton, Ga., Cease also ranks third in wins (four) and fourth in both ERA (1.95) and innings pitched (32.1).
The right-hander becomes the third Dash player to earn a weekly award in the Carolina League this year. Winston-Salem outfielder Micker Adolfo earned the first Player of the Week award from April 5-15. Meanwhile, Cease follows fellow right-hander Jimmy Lambert, who earned CL Pitcher of the Week honors from April 23-29.
Following a quick three-game series at Salem, the Dash return to BB&T Ballpark on Thursday for a four-game series against the Down East Wood Ducks. Promotions during the homestand include a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday with select beers for $1 through the seventh inning, a Fireworks Friday, a Chick-fil-A Four Pack offer for Saturday and a Mother's Day celebration on Sunday.
Following Friday, Saturday and Sunday's contests, kids can run the bases, powered by New Balance Winston-Salem. For tickets and more information, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
