BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Aug. 14, 2018) - Buies Creek jumped on Winston-Salem early and never looked back on Tuesday, as the Astros snapped the Dash's five-game winning streak with a 9-6 win at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Astros (30-19, 67-51) went work against Dash starter Luis Martinez (7-7) in the opening frame. J.J. Matijevic hit a one-out double to left-center, and, two batters later, Seth Beer hit an RBI single to center to put Buies Creek up 1-0. Beer advanced to second on a throwing error by Luis Robert, and Chuckie Robinson followed with an RBI single to center. Jake Adams then capped the inning off with a two-run homer.

In the second, the Astros made it a 6-0 contest thanks to a two-run shot from Jacob Meyers. Overall, the Astros smacked 12 hits against Martinez, marking the most hits against a Dash starter this season.
Winston-Salem (30-17, 71-46) plated its lone run against Astros starter Jose Hernandez (1-0) in the fourth. Two batters after Nick Madrigal singled to start the frame, Yermin Mercedes stroked a single to right, putting runners at the corners with one out. Gavin Sheets then smacked a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Madrigal.
But, the Astros added their final tally against Martinez in the fifth, and Buies Creek then plated two more runs against Drew Hasler in the sixth.
Trailing 9-1 heading into the eighth, Winston-Salem started to rally. Yeyson Yrizarri began the inning with a solo homer to left field, good for his sixth homer of the season. Later in the frame, with Madrigal on first with two outs, Blake Rutherford hit an RBI triple into left-center. Rutherford then came into score on a balk from Johan Ramirez.
Winston-Salem threatened in the ninth after Sheets walked to start the inning and Laz Rivera doubled. Ti'Quan Forbes grounded an RBI infield single to cut the deficit to 9-5, and Yrizarri followed by driving in a run on an RBI groundout. However, that would be it for the Dash, as Ramirez retired Robert and Luis González to end the game.
The Dash now continue their three-game set against Buies Creek on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Winston-Salem sends left-hander Kyle Kubat (6-1, 2.06 ERA), who is the reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week, to the hill against Astros right-hander J.B.
