The Chiefs (2-4), who scored five runs with two outs in their comeback win on Wednesday afternoon over the Rattlers, kept the theme going on Thursday. In the second inning Wisconsin starting pitcher Joe Hernandez retired the first two batters he faced, but gave up a double to Luis Rodriguez to extend the inning. Noah Mendlinger followed with an RBI triple to put Peoria in front. Scott was next and he doubled to score Mendlinger for the 2-0 lead.
Scott added a sacrifice fly to drive in a run in the top of the fourth to give the Chiefs a 3-0 advantage.
The Timber Rattlers (2-4) scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the gap. Je’Von Ward walked and Eric Brown Jr singled with one out. Then, Rob Moore sent a slow roller up the third base line. Peoria pitcher Alex Cornwell fired wildly to first and the ball went down the line in right. Ward scored while Brown wound up on third and Moore took second. Terence Doston followed with a line drive single to left to score Brown. However, Wisconsin left both runners in scoring position and trailed 3-2 heading to the sixth.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Chiefs scored a late insurance run to take a two-run lead before the Rattlers scored in the bottom of the ninth to close the gap only to fall short. Thursday’s game followed a similar pattern
Peoria added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning on Thursday night. Osvaldo Tovalin doubled and took third on an error. Scott delivered again for the Chiefs with a single to score Tovalin for a 4-2 lead.
The Timber Rattlers rallied in the ninth. Jesús Chirinos doubled with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner Jose Acosta. A wild pitch by Matt Hickey allowed Acosta to take third base. Ward knocked in Acosta with a grounder to second to cut the deficit to one run. Hickey retired the final batter with a flyout to left and the Chiefs won their second game in a row.
