Rattlers starter tosses six scoreless innings to earn fifth victory of 2023

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers clinched a series victory over the Peoria Chiefs with Saturday’s 4-2 win at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Tyler Woessner tossed six scoreless innings and struck out seven to pick up his fifth win of the season.

GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers clinched a series victory over the Peoria Chiefs with Saturday’s 4-2 win at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Tyler Woessner tossed six scoreless innings and struck out seven to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Wisconsin (18-31) grabbed the lead with a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning. Joe Gray Jr singled and Darrien Miller walked with two away. Ben Metzinger doubled to right to score Gray with the first run. Eduardo García followed with an infield single to score Miller for the 2-0 lead.

The Rattlers added to their advantage in the bottom of the fifth inning. Eric Brown Jr singled and stole second to start the inning before Matt Wood walked. That forced Peoria starting pitcher Trent Baker out of the game. Gray and Miller greeted reliever Leonardo Tavares to the game with back-to-back RBI singles and the Rattlers were up 4-0.

Woessner allowed three hits and walked one in his third quality start of the season.

Peoria (22-28) wasn’t going to make it easy. The Chiefs loaded the bases with one out against Karlos Morales in the top of the seventh on a double, a walk, and a hit batsman. Nathan Church singled to score two runs and cut Wisconsin’s lead in half. Morales got the second out on a force play at second. Brannon Jordan took over for Morales and got the final out of the inning.

Jordan went back out for the top of the eighth and pitched around a one out single to protect the lead. All three outs Jordan recorded were strikeouts.

Justin King came on for the top of the ninth with the top of the Chiefs lineup due to bat. Victor Scott II, the league-leader in stolen bases, tried to bunt his way aboard. King made a great defensive play with a sliding stop and toss to first to get the first out. Then, King struck out the next two batters to close out the game. The save was the first in affiliated ball for King.

Gray led the offense with two hits, an RBI, a run scored, a walk, and a stolen base.

The win clinched a series victory for the Timber Rattler. The have won four of the five games in the series with game six set for tomorrow.

The series finale is Sunday afternoon with a special 12:10pm start time at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Alexander Cornielle (0-1, 6.25) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Tink Hence (0-1, 3.05) is set to start for the Chiefs. Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames is scheduled to be the designated hitter for the Timber Rattlers on a rehabilitation assignment for the Brewers.

Adames isn’t the only Brewer in attendance on Sunday. Bernie Brewer will be at the game to celebrate having his bobblehead chosen by the fans this past off-season. The first 1,000 fans to attend this game will receive that bobblehead. All fans will be allowed on the outfield from 11:00am to 11:30am to play catch prior to this game courtesy of Bug Tussel. As a special treat, Green Bay Preble softball player and Oregon State University recruit Ashley Wolfe will be taking part in Catch on the Field and throwing out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the game.

During the game, Timber Rattlers players and coaches will wear their 2023 Brewers-themed jerseys and caps as well. Timber Rattlers players will be available for autographs with fans in a postgame autograph session courtesy of Tundraland.
