April 24, 2012

The Pawtucket Red Sox tied a franchise record on Tuesday night, winning their ninth straight ballgame, edging the Scranton Yankees 4-3. The PawSox (15-5) own the international Leagues' best record and are atop the I.L. North Division. It is the sixth time since 1973 that the club has won 9 in a row.

Brandon Duckworth started and went 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 base hits. Clayton Mortensen (2-1) notched the victory with 2 shutout innings of relief. Alex Wilson worked out of the bullpen for the first time in his professional career and allowed a run on two hits. Rich Hill continued his M.L. rehab assignment (Tommy John). The lefty struck out a man, allowing a hit and a walk. Mark Melancon struck out the side in the ninth for his first save in a PawSox uniform.

Daniel Nava and Mauro Gomez homered as the PawSox scored all their runs in the fourth inning. Nava nailed a solo shot while Gomez authored a two run blast. Josh Kroeger knocked in the other run with a double.

The series and homestand conclude on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Doug Mathis (0-1) gets the start as the PawSox shoot for a team record, tenth consecutive win.
