PawSox Earn a Win in Finale

May 4, 2012

As they did in Columbus, the Pawtucket Red Sox salvaged a win in the series finale in Toledo, defeating the Mud Hens, 5-2. The trip through the Buckeye State wasn't very fruitful, as the PawSox went 2-6.

For the first time in the series, Pawtucket scored first, getting four runs in the second inning. Lars Anderson singled, Daniel Nava doubled and Josh Kroeger knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. Alex Hassan walked and Nate Spears singled, setting the table for Jose Iglesias, who doubled in a pair of runs. Toledo countered with a couple of runs in the third. Matt Young slammed a two run triple for the Hens. Pawtucket scored a final run in the eighth as Iglesias tripled and scored on a sacrifice by Ryan Lavarnway.

Justin Germano worked five innings for the win. Germano (3-1) gave up four hits, walking two and fanning three in five innings. Andrew Miller, Alex Wilson and Garrett Mock combined for four scoreless innings of relief.

The PawSox will play the Scranton Yankees in Batavia, New York on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the same two teams meet Sunday at 2:05 p.m. in Rochester. Andy Pettitte is scheduled to pitch against Pawtucket on Sunday.
