Yankees Top PawSox Before a Packed House

September 2, 2012

The PawSox came up short on Sunday night in front of 10,286 fans at McCoy Stadium, 6-2. Trailing 3-2 in the eighth, Alex Wilson allowed three runs to the Yankees. With the PawSox clinching a playoff spot on Saturday and the Yankees doing the same a few days earlier, the outcome had no bearing in the standings.

The game got off to a rousing start as leftfielder Jason Repko robbed Kosuke Fukudome of a grand slam in the top of the first inning. Repko leapt and tumbled into the leftfield bullpen, making perhaps the best defensive play of the season for Pawtucket. Fukudome got the last laugh, though, homering in the third. The Pawox scored their runs on an RBI from Mike Rivera and one by Nate Spears. Spears and Che-Hsuan Lin had two hits each.

The two teams wrap up the 2012 regular season on Labor Day afternoon at 1:05 p.m. in a final tune up before the playoffs begin on Wednesday. Mike O'Connor (3-6) faces Steven Wright (0-1).
