Bourgeois triple leads Bats to 4-1 win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville took the final game of the five-game split series against Columbus 4-1 on Monday at Louisville Slugger Field. They have now won three in a row at home for the first time this season.

Louisville right-hander Jair Jurrjens (1-0, 1.80) made his first start of the 2014 season. He pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits while walking a batter and striking out eight. The last time Jurrjens struck out that many batters was July 22, 2011 against the Cincinnati Reds as a member of the Atlanta Braves.

Columbus scored its only run of the game in the second inning on a double by right fielder Carlos Moncrief. The RBI double came after two batters reached with two outs.

Trailing by a run in the fourth inning, Louisville shortstop Hernan Iribarren got the Bats on the board with an RBI single. Jason Bourgeois followed Iribarren with a triple into the right-center field gap to give the Bats their first lead of the game.

Columbus sent Travis Banwart (3-2, 3.63) to the mound for the second time this season against the Bats. He pitched four and one-third innings and allowed three runs on four hits, five walks and struck out three. In his four innings of work at least one Bats hitter reached base against Banwart.

The month may have changed but that didn't affect Felix Perez. He reached base three times including his seventh home run of the season that gave the Bats an insurance run in the seventh inning. He finished 7-for-17 (.411) in the series against the Clippers.

Louisville's bullpen has worked a lot this season, but on Monday they were ran out to the mound once again. The Bats used three relievers and have now used at least four pitchers, including the starter, in 10 straight games. They worked four scoreless innings and have now worked eight straight scoreless innings.

Louisville (28-30) will travel to Lehigh Valley (30-28) to begin a four game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (5-4, 3.91) will get the ball for Louisville and will square off against right-hander Chris Bootcheck (2-0, 0.75).
