Isotopes Drop Season Finale 5-0 To 51s

September 1, 2014

NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (62-80) 2014 season came to a close Monday afternoon as the Las Vegas 51s (81-63) claimed a 5-0 victory at Isotopes Park. Albuquerque won the series three games to one and beat the division-winning 51s nine out of 16 tries this season.

PITCHER'S DUEL UNTIL THE END: It was a battle of top pitching prospects Monday afternoon as Isotopes right-hander Zach Lee took the hill for Albuquerque, and Las Vegas sent righty Noah Syndergaard to the bump. Lee cruised through the first four innings before allowing a single run to score in the fifth. A solo homer in sixth made it 2-0 before the right-hander turned it over to the bullpen. Syndergaard matched Lee's performance and escaped a crucial jam in the fifth to keep Albuquerque off the board. Bernadina tripled to lead off the inning, but Syndergaard stuck the next batter out before coaxing a pair of ground balls to escape the jam. Las Vegas scored three runs in the top of the ninth to put it out of reach.

BATTIN' BAXTER: Mike Baxter turned in a 1-for-3 showing with a walk Monday afternoon. Against the 51s in this four-game homestand, Baxter is batting .563 (9-for-16) with eight runs scored, four doubles, an RBI and two walks.

MOVING LIKE BERNEY: Outfielder Roger Bernadina posted a 3-for-3 afternoon with a triple and a walk. It was his fifth multi-hit game since joining the Isotopes on July 8. In 23 games with Albuquerque, he hit .256 (14-for-57) with two doubles and two triples.

LEE'S QUALITY START: Starting pitcher Zach Lee gave the Isotopes six innings for two-run, seven-hit ball and gave them a chance to stage a comeback. He also struck three and walked only one. It was his 10th quality start in 28 outings this season.

THE CALL-UPS: During Monday afternoon's game, the Los Angeles Dodgers announced the four Isotopes that will be joining the Dodgers as part of September call-ups. Catcher Tim Federowicz, infielder Alex Guerrero, outfielder Joc Pederson and right-handed pitcher Yimi Garcia all got the call. Pederson and Garcia will be making their Major League debuts when they enter their first game for Los Angeles.
