Columbus soars past the Bats, 11-1

Clippers scored 11 runs off of 15 hits to cruise to victory

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Clippers (7-7) had a season high in runs as well as hits (15) as they beat up on the Louisville Bats (6-7) by the score of 11-1.  

Columbus jumped ahead early in the bottom of the 2nd after a home run by designated hitter James Ramsey. Another run was added that same inning after a walk was issued to Carlos Moncrief, who was then driven in by an RBI double by Adam Moore.

The damage continued in the fourth after a bunt single by Ramsey, followed by a stolen base, error and then a RBI single by Moncrief allowed Ramsey to score for the second time.

The Bats, trailing 3-0 in the 5th inning, got on the board after a two-out double by Eugenio Suarez who was then knocked in by an RBI double by Ivan De Jesus.

The Clippers then started to pull away in the 6th inning scoring three more runs. Giovanny Urshela hit a solo home run and then the Bats gave up a walk, a single to Ryan Rohlinger and then a two-run double to Francisco Lindor. The Clippers would then tag on five more runs in the 8th inning to make it a ten-run lead.

On the mound, getting the win for the Clippers, was Shaun Marcum. Marcum looked very impressive giving up only five hits, one walk,and one earned run while striking out six in seven innings of work.

Dylan Axelrod (1-1) took the loss for the Bats. Axelrod gave up four earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven.

The Clippers offense was solid as every batter in the lineup had at least one hit. The Clippers had a total of 15 hits. Moore led all hitters with 3 hits.

For the Bats, after a solid offensive performance Wednesday, they were only able to manage five hits. De Jesus helped get the only run for the Bats with his RBI double in the 5th inning.

Louisville will look to bounce back tomorrow as they face Columbus again at 7:15 p.m. Taking the mound for the Bats will be Michael Lorenzen (2-0, 0.69 ERA) as he looks to continue his impressive season start. Righty Toru Murata (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will be pitching for the Clippers.
